  • Matters relating to formulation of public policies and laws to meet special needs of women, ensuring that women’s interests and needs are adequately represented in public policy formulation by various organs and agencies of the government.

  • Assistance to women’s organizations.

  • Promotion and undertaking of projects for provision of special facilities for women.

  • Promotion and undertaking of training and research on the conditions and problems of women.

  • Representing Pakistan at international and bilateral level, involving all gender related matters.

  • Matters relating to equality of opportunity in education, employment and fuller participation of women in all spheres of national life.

Mandate

Primarily Ministry of Women Development is mandated to make efforts for

women’s empowerment and gender equality.

  •  

Role

The role of MoWD is of an Advocate, Lobbyist, Catalyst, and Coordinator

for the cause of women.

To bring a positive change in the lives of Pakistani women in order to accord them a status they deserve in conformity with the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

 1993-96  Youth Affairs Division merged with MoWD

 Youth Affairs Division taken away, merged with Ministry of Social

 Welfare and Special Education (MoWD, SW&SE)

 2004-05

 Ministry of Women Development re-born as a result of separation from 

 the erstwhile MoWD, SW&SE on 2nd September, 2004

The Ministry consists of three Wings:

Administration and Coordination Wing

All matters relating to General Administration, Personnel Management, Budget, Coordination, etc.

  •  

Development Wing

Planning, execution, implementation, monitoring of PSDP funded projects.

  •  

Gender Equality Wing

Women's Rights, laws, policy, research, international Cooperation and training.
